Carbon Facial Aftercare: The 48 Hours After a Carbon Laser Session, and How to Keep the Result
The carbon facial is the fastest-recovering laser treatment we offer: a thin layer of carbon lotion, a Q-switched laser pass that vaporises it along with the oil and debris in the pores, and a face that looks fresher within the hour. Its aftercare is short — two days of rules — but on pigment-prone Jaipur skin those two days matter, because the laser has just delivered energy to a surface that will respond to heat, sun or friction by making pigment. This guide covers what is normal, the 48-hour rules, what to pause, how often to repeat, and the signs that need a message to the clinic.

What is normal after a carbon facial
- Mild pinkness and warmth for one to a few hours, like a short sun exposure
- A faint, smoky smell in the hair for the evening — the vaporised carbon
- Skin that looks matte, tighter-pored and brighter the same day
- Occasionally a small breakout of whiteheads within two or three days as cleared pores release remaining debris; it settles on its own
- Slight dryness or flaking around the nose and chin for a day or two
The 48-hour rules
- Sunscreen on before you leave and reapplied every two to three hours outdoors for two days; a mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide, used generously.
- Avoid direct sun and heat: no midday errands, no sauna, steam, hot yoga, intense exercise or hot showers.
- No scrubs, acids, retinol, vitamin C serum, clay masks or peels for 48 hours; the laser has already exfoliated.
- No make-up for the rest of the day if possible; mineral make-up from the next morning is fine.
- No touching, squeezing or extracting the small whiteheads if they appear.
- No facial hair removal — waxing, threading, bleaching — on the face for five days.
- Cleanse gently with cool water and a bland cleanser; apply a light, non-comedogenic moisturiser; nothing else.

Why the rules exist
The Q-switched laser pulse is absorbed by the carbon and by melanin. On a face that then meets ultraviolet, heat or friction within the next day or two, melanocytes already stimulated by the session can produce patchy pigment — the post-treatment darkening that is the main risk of any laser on Indian skin. Our treatment rules exclude clients with more than two hours of daily sun exposure from this laser for exactly that reason, and the two-day sun rule afterwards is the other half of the same precaution.

Days three to seven
Resume your normal routine gradually: niacinamide and hyaluronic serums first, vitamin C from day three, retinol and salicylic from day five if you use them. Keep sunscreen daily, which should not change. If your plan includes a salicylic peel or an acne-directed facial, our rules keep any further laser or heat treatment at least a week away and medium peels at a similar distance; the therapist will have booked accordingly.
Keeping pores and oil under control between sessions
- A salicylic acid cleanser or serum two or three nights a week once the 48 hours have passed
- Niacinamide in the morning under sunscreen for oil regulation and pore appearance
- A gel or light lotion moisturiser; skipping moisturiser makes oily skin oilier
- Cleansing properly every evening to remove sunscreen and the day’s dust; a second cleanse is more useful than a scrub
- Nothing comedogenic on the face: heavy oils, thick creams, hair products that migrate to the forehead

How often to repeat
For oily, congested skin in the hot and humid months, every four to six weeks keeps pores, oil and tan in check; in winter, every six to eight weeks or as the scan suggests. Before an event, a session two or three days ahead gives the matte, even finish without peeling. Sessions are not stacked closer than four weeks, because the follicles need the interval and our rules keep repeated laser passes apart.
Jaipur-specific notes
- Book in the morning and go home, or book in the evening; a carbon facial followed by a sunny afternoon outdoors is the one combination to avoid.
- Monsoon: the humid months are the busy season for this facial — oil, sweat and congestion — and also the season of unexpected sun between showers; keep the sunscreen on.
- Scooter: a scarf and cap for two days; the forehead and cheeks catch sun on the commute.
- Dust: cleanse gently in the evening; freshly cleared pores collect particulate quickly.
When to message the clinic
An hour of pinkness and a day of mild dryness are normal. Message us for: redness that persists beyond a day or worsens; a burning sensation; blisters or crusting; a rash; a cluster of inflamed pustules rather than a few whiteheads; or patchy darkening appearing in the week after the session. Early calming treatment prevents most marks, and the settings are reviewed before the next session.
Carbon facial aftercare: frequently asked questions
What should I avoid after a carbon facial?
Sun, heat, scrubs, acids, retinol, vitamin C, masks, make-up for the day, squeezing, and facial hair removal — for 48 hours, with hair removal avoided for five days. Mineral sunscreen is essential.
Is redness normal after a carbon facial?
Mild pinkness and warmth for an hour or a few hours are normal. Redness that lasts beyond a day or worsens should be reported.
