HydraFacial Aftercare: How to Keep the Glow for Longer Than a Week
A hydradermabrasion facial is the treatment people book because it has no downtime, and it does not — you can go to dinner the same evening. It still has aftercare, because the session has just exfoliated the surface, extracted the pores and infused serums into skin that is more permeable than usual for a day or two. What you put on it, and what you keep off it, over those 48 hours decides whether the glow lasts a week or a month. This is the aftercare we give every client at AI Aesthetics, plus the home routine that extends the result.

What is normal afterwards
- Skin that looks plumper, brighter and more even immediately — the infused serums and the clean, exfoliated surface
- Mild pinkness for an hour, mostly where extractions were done
- A slight tightness the same evening as the hydration settles; it passes by morning
- Occasionally a small whitehead or two over the next two days where a congested pore was cleared
- No peeling, no flaking, no marks
The 48-hour rules
- No exfoliation of any kind: no scrubs, acids, retinol, vitamin C serum, exfoliating cleansers or face brushes; the surface has been exfoliated already.
- Sunscreen on before leaving and reapplied outdoors; the new surface is more sun-sensitive for a day or two.
- No heavy make-up for the rest of the day; a tinted mineral sunscreen is the ideal cover if you need one.
- No heat: skip the sauna, steam, hot yoga and long hot showers.
- No waxing, threading or bleaching on the face for five days.
- No new products or home remedies; the skin is at its most absorbent, which is also when it reacts most.
- Cleanse gently with a bland cleanser and cool water; apply a hyaluronic serum and a ceramide or gel moisturiser; sleep on a clean pillowcase.

Event timing
The glow peaks at 24–72 hours and holds for a week. For a wedding, shoot or function, book the session two or three days before — not the morning of, when the pinkness from extraction may still show, and not a week before, when the peak has passed. Our treatment rules withhold medium peels and energy devices within seven days of an event precisely so that the facial booked for that week can be this one, which has no downtime.

Extending the glow: the home routine
- Morning: gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin, niacinamide if you use it, ceramide or gel moisturiser, mineral sunscreen
- Evening: double cleanse to remove sunscreen and dust, hyaluronic serum, moisturiser; from day three, your retinol or acid on alternate nights
- Twice a week: a hydrating sheet mask or a thin layer of a bland occlusive over moisturiser at night
- Water and sleep: dehydrated, tired skin loses the plump look within days whatever is applied
- What undoes the glow fastest: a scrub, a bleach, a parlour facial or a strong peel in the following fortnight

How often to repeat
Monthly for dehydrated, dull or congested skin that is in a corrective plan; every six to eight weeks for maintenance; before events as needed. The session can be repeated as often as every three weeks because it is gentle, but more often than monthly rarely adds anything the home routine would not.
Jaipur-specific notes
- Dry winter: the hydration gain is largest and shortest-lived in December; the ceramide moisturiser and a humidifier in an air-conditioned or heated bedroom hold it.
- Summer: book late afternoon or evening so the infused skin is not immediately in the sun; keep the 48-hour sun rule.
- Dust: a double cleanse in the evening keeps the freshly cleared pores clear; a scrub does the opposite.
- Hard water: rinse with filtered water for a couple of days if the skin feels tight after washing.
When to message the clinic
Pinkness for an hour and a whitehead or two are normal. Message us for: redness lasting beyond a day; stinging that worsens; a rash or hives; swelling; or a cluster of inflamed spots rather than one or two whiteheads. Reactions are rare and usually relate to a new product applied at home in the absorbent window.
HydraFacial aftercare: frequently asked questions
What should I avoid after a HydraFacial?
Scrubs, acids, retinol, vitamin C, exfoliating cleansers, heavy make-up, heat and new products for 48 hours; waxing or threading on the face for five days. Sunscreen is essential.
How long does the HydraFacial glow last?
It peaks at one to three days and holds about a week; with the home routine — hyaluronic serum, ceramide moisturiser, sunscreen, no scrubs — most clients keep it closer to a month.
When should I book a HydraFacial before a wedding?
Two or three days before the function, so extraction pinkness has settled and the glow is at its peak.
Can I wear make-up after a HydraFacial?
Avoid heavy make-up the same day; a tinted mineral sunscreen is the ideal cover. Normal make-up from the next morning.
How often can I have a HydraFacial?
Monthly during a corrective plan, every six to eight weeks for maintenance, or before events. It is gentle enough to repeat every three weeks if needed.
Can I use retinol after a HydraFacial?
Pause it for 48 hours, then resume on alternate nights from day three if your skin is calm.
