PRP, GFC and Exosome Hair Treatment Aftercare: The Week After a Scalp Session, and What to Do Between Sessions

PRP, GFC and exosome sessions all end the same way: a scalp that has been injected or microneedled, is slightly tender, and is now carrying the growth signals that the next few weeks will turn into thicker hair. Aftercare for the three is almost identical, and it is simple — but the questions we are asked most (when can I wash, can I oil, what about the helmet) are the ones that go wrong when guessed. This guide answers them, covers the 48-hour rules, and sets out the between-session routine that makes a course of scalp treatments work.

PRP, GFC and Exosome Hair Treatment Aftercare: The Week After a Scalp Session, and What to Do Between Sessions — Facial and skin treatment room at AI Aesthetics, C-Scheme, Jaipur

What is normal afterwards

  • Tenderness, a tight or bruised feeling and mild swelling of the scalp for a day or two, especially at injection sites
  • Pinpoint redness or tiny scabs where needles entered, settling within two or three days
  • A dull headache the same evening for some clients
  • Occasional small bruises, more likely if you take fish oil or aspirin
  • A temporary increase in shedding in the second and third week after the first session — resting hairs being pushed out by new growth; it is expected and it passes

The 48-hour rules

  • Do not wash the hair for 24 hours after injections; after microneedling with exosomes, wait the time the therapist advised, usually 12–24 hours, so the applied solution is not rinsed away.
  • No oil, serum, gel, spray, dry shampoo or styling product on the scalp for 48 hours, other than the post-procedure serum given at the clinic.
  • No heat: no sauna, steam, hot showers on the scalp, blow-drying on hot, or intense exercise that causes heavy sweating for 48 hours.
  • No helmet or tight cap for 24 hours; after that, a clean cotton liner under the helmet for the week.
  • No swimming for three days.
  • No scratching, picking at scabs, or massaging the scalp for three days.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking for 48 hours; both impair the healing response the treatment depends on.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers for three days unless prescribed — they blunt the inflammatory signal that PRP and GFC rely on; paracetamol is fine for discomfort.

Washing, oiling and colouring

WhenHow
First wash After 24 hours (injections) or as advised (exosomes) Lukewarm water, a mild shampoo, fingertips not nails, no rubbing of the treated area
Oiling From day 4 Light oil, applied gently, washed out within hours; heavy overnight oiling is unnecessary and can clog a healing scalp
Hair colour or chemical treatments Not for two weeks after, and not within one week before, a session Ammonia and bleach on a needled scalp cause irritation and shedding
Scalp serum From 48 hours The peptide scalp serum nightly on the treated area for the whole course
Styling heat From day 3 Cool or warm setting; avoid high heat on the scalp

Between sessions

  • The scalp serum every night: it is the part of the plan that works on the thirty days between visits
  • Nutrition: protein at every meal, and the iron, vitamin D, B12 or thyroid correction the doctor prescribed — a scalp injection cannot outrun a deficiency
  • Gentle routine: mild shampoo two or three times a week, no harsh anti-dandruff shampoos unless prescribed, no tight hairstyles that pull at the roots
  • Sleep and stress: shedding follows poor sleep by a few weeks, and a course of treatment during an exhausting season gives a weaker result
  • Photographs: the same parting, the same light, once a month; the mirror will not show you the change, the photographs will
  • Scalp health first: if dandruff, oil or flaking return between sessions, a scalp-health session is slotted in rather than injecting into an unhealthy scalp

Jaipur-specific notes

  • Helmets and heat: the two-wheeler helmet on a sweaty scalp is the main folliculitis risk in summer; a clean cotton liner every day for the week after a session.
  • Dust: cover the scalp with a scarf or cap for the first two days outdoors; the needle channels close within a day but the scalp is tender.
  • Hard water: rinse with filtered water for the first wash if your scalp stings with tap water.
  • Monsoon: wash and dry the scalp fully after getting wet; a damp scalp under a helmet breeds the fungal flaking that pauses treatment.

When to message the clinic

Tenderness, pinpoint scabs, a mild headache and the second-week shedding are normal. Message us for: swelling that increases after day two; a hot, painful, boggy area of scalp; pustules or crusting beyond pinpoint scabs; fever; or heavy, continuing shedding beyond the fourth week. Scalp infection after a sterile procedure is rare and is treated early when reported early.

Timeline of results

Shedding slows by six to eight weeks. New fine hairs appear along the parting and hairline at three to four months. Density improves between months four and six as those hairs thicken. The result is maintained with a session every three to six months, the nightly serum, and the nutrition that was corrected at the start. Results vary from person to person, and the clients who keep them are the ones who keep the routine between visits.

PRP, GFC and exosome aftercare: frequently asked questions

When can I wash my hair after PRP or GFC?

After 24 hours, with lukewarm water and a mild shampoo, using fingertips gently. After exosome microneedling, wait the time the therapist advised, usually 12–24 hours.

Can I oil my hair after a scalp treatment?

From day four, lightly, and washed out within hours. Heavy overnight oiling is unnecessary on a healing scalp.

Is hair fall normal after PRP?

A temporary increase in shedding in the second and third week after the first session is expected: resting hairs are pushed out by new growth. Shedding that continues heavily beyond the fourth week should be reported.

Can I wear a helmet after PRP?

Not for 24 hours; after that, with a clean cotton liner for the week. A sweaty helmet on a tender scalp is the main folliculitis risk in Jaipur summers.

What should I avoid after a scalp session?

Washing for 24 hours, products on the scalp and heat or heavy sweating for 48 hours, swimming for three days, hair colour for two weeks, and anti-inflammatory painkillers for three days unless prescribed.

When will I see results from PRP, GFC or exosomes?

Less shedding by six to eight weeks, new fine hairs at three to four months, and better density by month six. Monthly photographs of the same parting show the change the mirror misses.
